Lake Naivasha The Lodge

It was about a three hour drive from Nairobi to Lake Naivasha. When we arrived at the Naivasha Sopa Lodge we were greeted at the door of the lobby by people dressed in Masai native clothing handing out wet wash clothes and cold juice. When we wiped our faces the cloths were covered with red dirt. There is red dirt everywhere!

Sean was totally fascinated with the mosquito netting. We took our malaria meds for three nights and then quit. We saw a half a dozen mosquito's the entire trip. Don did get a few bites but Sean and I didn't get any. Roshan, one of the people in our group had little spots on her that she thought might be mosquito bites but they were tiny. They looked more like an allergic reaction.

I would have loved to have one less night in Nairobi and one more night at Lake Naivisha. The lodge and grounds were so beautiful but we had no time to explore. We got there, ate lunch, went on the boat ride, ate dinner, went to bed, got up early and left. The room itself was beautiful. This is the front entrance.

There were zebras and giraffes on the grounds. After 7:30 pm you had to call for an escort when you left your room. They said it was to protect us from hippos that come out of the lake at night to graze. Our escort had a bow and arrow. I said "really how bad are you going to hurt a hippo with that bow and arrow?" He said they were more concerned about villagers poaching and a guest being harmed. I'm not 100% sure what they were protecting us from but I felt very protected.

The rooms, so fabulous. When we woke up in the morning there were giraffes eating leaves.
